This can be done by creating a short workflow where step one is the closed step. Step 2 is the assigned step which is used if the event needs to be re-opened for editing, and step 3 is the cancelled step.

Grant Stephens: Thanks for this info. How does this differentiate between the desktop application and the mobile app? i.e. This would work fine on the mobile app, but when using the web app, there would need to be added workflow steps to allow a checklist to be added and completed.
